Estrogen Replacement Therapy in Women
Today, we will discuss estrogen replacement therapy in women patients. 99% of all women patients that we see at US Women’s Medical Center are on estrogen replacement therapy. This is simply us providing these patients estrogen to take supplementally.
As women age, there is a natural decline of estrogen in the body. Estrogen slowly declines around age 30, and that affects women very differently. We have patients in their upper 30s and we have patients that come in for the first time in their mid-60s.
There are over 400 functions of estrogen in the body. The functions that we see most beneficial are increased cognition and increased metabolism. This is scientifically proven.
Estrogen has a profound effect on the brain and the way we think, and has also been linked to Alzheimer’s Disease. Patients that have less and less estrogen as they go through perimenopause and menopause are at a greater risk for developing Alzheimer’s.
There is a big energy component to estrogen as well. When estrogen levels decrease in your body, your metabolism slows down. So, as we increase the estrogen levels, your metabolism increases. Therefore, you do not see rapid weight gain. In many cases, our patients will lose weight during estrogen replacement therapy.
These are just two reasons why Estrogen Replacement Therapy in Women has been so effective here at US Women’s Medical Center. Contact us today for more information about estrogen replacement therapy to see if it might be the right choice for you.
